The Madeira lizard, Teira dugesii, is a reptile endemic to Madeira and the Desertas Islands. This friendly animal sometimes shows curiosity in studying human beings, entering their homes with the best of intentions. It inhabits coastal areas, forests and urban gardens.
It plays a crucial role in insect control and serves as prey for birds and other predators.
It is not in danger of extinction, but preserving its habitat is essential.

Madeiran skewers are a traditional dish from Madeira, made with beef seasoned with coarse salt and garlic and roasted directly on a laurel stick. The meat is skewered and placed on the coals. It is then served on skewers or removed to individual plates, celebrating the simplicity and hospitality of Madeira.

Poncha from Madeira



Poncha da Madeira is a traditional drink made from sugar cane spirit, honey and lemon juice. Traditionally, it is served in small glasses with a mussel. Among the most popular varieties are passion fruit poncha and tangerine poncha. It is consumed at celebrations and social events, reflecting Madeiran culture.
